Tsinghua University Green Office Guidelines
(1st Edition)
1.Refine the intelligent management and operation of energy-consuming facilities and equipment in buildings including the cooling and heating systems, elevators and lighting system; reduce energy consumption and intensity; boost energy efficiency and minimize waste.
2.Follow the instructed level of air-conditioning and heating for public buildings. Indoor temperature settings should be kept within the designated range, namely, no less than 26℃ in summer and no more than 20℃ in winter. Ventilation by opening windows is encouraged when it is suitable, whereas the use of air conditioners is expected to be minimized. When the office is unoccupied, air conditioners and heaters are to be switched off.
3.Make full use of natural light and reduce the use of lighting fixtures when natural light is sufficient. Upgrade lighting systems, gradually adopt highly-efficient lighting fixtures and intelligent control of lighting. Reduce lighting hours and switch light off when the office is unoccupied.
4.Reduce the energy used by office equipment and encourage the procurement of energy-saving equipment. Power-off office devices when they are not in use. Turn into power-saving mode for office equipment in working hours if permitted.
5.Allocate equipment and furniture on the basis of functional priority, making full use of assets that still have functional value.
6.Actively promote an online and paperless office. Use 70gsm paper on the basis of meeting the work requirements. Encourage duplex printing in black ink.
7.Encourage the use of recycled paper, degradable waste bags, recyclable articles and other green office items.
8.Take your own beverage container when attending meetings instead of using paper, plastic cups, or other disposables. When bottled water is opened, please consume it or take it away.
9.Voluntarily engage in waste classification, reduce and recycle waste. Minimize working meals in order to reduce disposable waste, especially during conference and events. Champion the Clean Your Plate campaign.
10.Use low-carbon and healthy modes of green transportation on campus. Walking or cycling rather than taking motor vehicles should be prioritized on campus.
11.Consider taking the stairs instead of the lift, particularly if the destination is within three floors.
12.Enhance water-conservation on campus, advocate the use of water-conservation products, and actively promote the recycling and reuse of reclaimed water and rainwater. Turn off the tap after using it. Do not leave the tap running.
